Néfur - The Water, The Lover
wearable experience design
The Water, The Lover is a multidisciplinary concept album blending music, performance, and visual storytelling. I designed and handcrafted the costumes and visual styling for the project, including the music videos for The Egg and The Human. The costume from The Human was later reimagined as an interactive illuminated installation by Berthe Fortin.
glaciers and the orphic egg
Just like the piece of music and its lyrics, the costume was inspired by glaciers and the Orphic Egg, both symbols of creation and new beginnings. Like the Cosmic Egg, glaciers appear still but hold the potential for life, storing water that eventually flows into rivers and oceans. Layers of translucent fabric reflect the texture and depth of glacial ice, while braided elements wrapping around the dress are inspired by the serpent surrounding the Orphic Egg, symbolising creation, transformation, and the cycle of life.
focus on the human
In contrast to the elaborate symbolism of The Egg, The Human embraced simplicity. The costume and styling were intentionally understated, allowing the skin and human form to become the focal point. Retaining the project's braided, tribal-inspired aesthetic, the garments blended into the landscape, almost disappearing into its textures and shadows to express a sense of belonging rather than separation.
...to wearable installation
The costume was designed not only for the music video but also with future live performances in mind. It was created as a transformable piece that could evolve into an interactive performance costume. This interactive element was later brought to life by artist and designer Berthe Fortin.
