Roadmap for life after stroke
service design
Life after stroke can feel overwhelming. While medical treatment often focuses on surviving the stroke itself, many survivors and families are left wondering what comes next. What services are available? What challenges are normal? Where can I get support?
This roadmap was created to help answer those questions.

healing through design
Drawing from lived experience and extensive research into the Icelandic healthcare and support system, the website brings together the information stroke survivors often spend months searching for on their own.
The guide follows the journey beyond the hospital — from rehabilitation and healthcare services to finances, work, relationships, mental health, leisure, and community support. Its goal is simple: to make the path after stroke easier to navigate, easier to understand, and less lonely.
Recovery is rarely a straight line. Every stroke survivor's journey is different. This roadmap is not a set of instructions, but a companion — a practical guide to help people find resources, understand their options, and move forward with greater confidence and hope.

designed with the survivors
Throughout the design process, we worked closely with stroke survivors through a series of workshops and feedback sessions. Together, we explored everything from mapping out the needs, visual language and navigation structures to colors, icons, terminology, and the overall intuitiveness of the experience. Rather than making assumptions about what users might need, we tested ideas directly with the people the roadmap was created for. These conversations helped shape a solution that feels clear, welcoming, and easy to navigate, while ensuring that the information is presented in a way that is accessible during a time when cognitive fatigue, uncertainty, and information overload can be significant challenges.
